Overview
Upon successful completion of a Joint Study of the Sumbagsel Block in August 2010 by Cooper Energy and the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) from Yogjakarta, the permit was included by MIGAS in the 2nd Petroleum Bidding Round. The permit was subsequently awarded to Cooper Energy on the 24th March 2011.
Following a comprehensive technical evaluation using all the available data within the Sumbagsel permit, it was concluded that structurally controlled prospects are present in the Talang Akar and Batu Raja Formations. Although the current 2D seismic data does not cover the entire area of the block, the available data does offer the opportunity to highgrade some areas that could produce drillable prospects in a timely manner. Should further evaluation prove positive, other exploration targets may become attractive and offer potential upside to the overall prospectively of the Sumbagsel permit.
The proposed exploration work programme in the Sumbagsel permit is to acquire, process and interpret 1000km of 2D seismic and to drill one exploration well. Both of these activities are required in order to further evaluate and understand the petroleum system in the area. The seismic will be acquired in areas that are currently deemed as prospective and will provide additional support for a one well drilling program.
Once a working petroleum system has been proved, it is Cooper Energy’s intention to continue exploration activities that allows for a thorough evaluation of the whole block area.
